Pretty good article. They make a good point that the only comparable big man to Shaq ever in the NBA was George Mikan, who was bigger than everyone else and had no rival.
Lakers played an excellent game today from beginning to end - after getting that lead Kobe never let them give it back. Excellent defense and good execution out of the triangle... it's a very well-drilled team. Their only hole right now is their lack of depth... if one of the key supporting guys goes down (Horry/Fox/Fisher) I don't think Hunter/Walker will be able to do quite as well.
I'm beginning to think the only comparable inside-outside potential tandem that could measure up to Kobe-Shaq in today's game would be for Duncan to go to Orlando in a year and you'd have him and McGrady in their primes. On the other hand the Lakers would still have the dominant offensive system and fundamental defense down.
