Odds and ends

Joined with a bunch of other Canaan folks this past Saturday to visit the Hsueh family where we had the chance to see Peter (who looks like he's bouncing back). We also got to help them out by building some shelves, and when that took less time than expected, we figured what the hey, and cleared out their entire garage. After about two hours of moving, sweeping, and sorting, we ended up with about 5 bags of items to take to the Salvation Army, a whole pickup-truck-bed of garbage, and room in the garage for a car where there was none before. Get well soon, Peter.

Belated congratulations to JT and Joy, who got engaged two Saturdays ago. I think JT took everyone by surprise, including himself. Nothing like a spontaneous trip to Denmark to propose to your girlfriend to get people buzzing. It has been somewhat amusing to see him take something of a philosophical turn in recent days, waxing poetic about life, singleness, and relationships. Here's a link to a little set of guidelines he wrote up about proposing based on his experience.

Derek Fisher is now a Warrior. I guess he was one of the Lakers that didn't bug me as much, except when he was driving a stake through my heart with the .4 shot against the Spurs a few months ago. Solid professional, likable guy... but the W's gave him too much money. I suppose I'll reserve judgment until I see what else Mullin is going to do with the roster.

Pistons (Billups, Rip, Tayshaun, Ben, Rasheed, McDyess) vs. Spurs (Parker, Ginobili, Bowen, Duncan, Rasho, Barry) in the 2005 finals. The West is crazy competitive... only the Sonics appears to be a clear-cut team that will miss the playoffs. Everyone else you could make an argument for - Spurs, Wolves, Mavs, Kings, Rockets, Lakers, Grizzlies, Nuggets, Jazz, Suns, Blazers, Hornets... even the Clips have some talent. Just not right...

For anyone driving in LA near UCLA or near the junction of 605-60, keep your eyes open for a Q-Cup billboard (pearl milk tea place). The girl on the billboard is my cousin!
