Propriety/Modesty

Following up on Alex's post on Proverbs 11:22 about the topic of modesty and discretion, I came across a post by a Christian guy on a message board that I feel does a good job of summing up this Biblical principle:

"Here's a little advice for women when getting dressed that my guy friends and I decided back in college. The less you wear, the shorter the relationship we want with you. What that really means is this. A woman who wears next to nothing will spark our interest for one thing. At the same time, a woman who is more modest may not catch our eye right away, but will slowly lure us in.

"It really boils down to this. Dress sexy, and you'll get a lot of attention from guys. Much more than if you dressed a little more modest. You'll probably find though that the attention you're getting isn't the type you really want. A woman who dresses modest helps us get to know her for who she is. You might not get tons of attention from guys, you'll probably find out you're getting attention from the right guys.

"Keep in mind, I'm not saying you should all wear sweatshirts and baggy jeans. You are women. God gave you distinct female features. Feel free to make yourselves look beautiful. But let's not kid ourselves, people. Even though we may not be able to type it out, we all know the difference between looking beautiful and looking trashy."

Let's continue to exhort one another on to holiness.
