In a presentation I attended today about insurance, I was browsing the list of "items covered" when I came across:

"Seeing-eye dog or hearing assisting cat"

I know what a seeing-eye dog is.

What the heck is a hearing assisting cat? How does it work? Are these some breed of super-cats that know sign language, given only to the hearing-impaired?
